Free & open source · built by burners, for burns

What is Humans? Your whole burn, in one place.

Humans is the membership platform that runs Nobodies Collective, the Spanish nonprofit behind the Elsewhere burn. It manages the full lifecycle of a burn organization — from a volunteer's first signup through teams, shifts, tickets, governance, and money — with GDPR built in and an audit trail the Board can actually read.

01 — the front door

People

Everything starts with a person signing themselves up. From there, the system runs the paperwork so nobody else has to.

Self-service signup, member profiles, and consent tracking. GDPR is built in, not bolted on: every member can export their data or ask to be forgotten, and the system handles both.

Onboarding runs itself — a new volunteer completes a profile, signs the consents, and is provisioned automatically. No spreadsheet, no waiting on a volunteer with admin rights to notice.

  • Self-service signupProfiles, consents, and automatic admission to the volunteer pool.
  • GDPR as a featureOne-click data export and a real right-to-deletion path.
  • Automatic provisioningAccounts, teams, and Google Workspace access appear on their own.
02 — who does what, where, and when

Organize

Teams with their own pages and Google Workspace resources, volunteer shift scheduling with live coverage numbers, theme camps, city planning on a real map, and a what's-on event guide.

Visible to everyone — not locked in a coordinator's head.

  • TeamsOwn pages, membership, and Workspace groups per team.
  • ShiftsScheduling with live coverage numbers, not guesswork.
  • Camps & city planningTheme camps placed on a real map of the site.
  • Event guideA what's-on guide for everything happening at the burn.
Built by the people who build the city.
03 — follow the money

Money

A members' store, expense reports with receipts and approval flow, per-team budgets, and a live mirror of the association's accounting ledger.

The Board sees where the money is without asking anyone to update a sheet.

  • Members' storeMerch and tickets sold inside the platform.
  • ExpensesReceipts attached, approval flow, reimbursements tracked.
  • Budgets & ledgerPer-team budgets against a live accounting mirror.
04 — who approved that, and when

Govern

Board roles with start and end dates, membership-tier applications with board voting, and a full audit trail of every automated action.

When someone asks "who approved that, and when" — the answer is one search away.

  • Board rolesGovernance roles with real terms, not tribal memory.
  • Applications & votesMembership tiers applied for, voted on, recorded.
  • Audit trailEvery automated action leaves a record the Board can read.
05 — six languages, one outbox

Communicate

Transactional email with a visible outbox, campaign sends to synced audiences, and in-app notifications.

The whole member-facing UI ships in six languages — English, Spanish, Catalan, German, French, and Italian — because a Spanish burn is not an English-only crowd.

  • Email outboxEvery mail the system sends is visible and searchable.
  • CampaignsBulk sends to audiences that sync themselves.
  • Six languagesen · es · ca · de · fr · it, enforced by tests.
06 — live data, not last Tuesday's printout

At the gate

Ticketing with vendor imports and transfers, a gate check-in kiosk, barcode scanning from a phone browser, and early-entry lists.

The gate crew works from live data, in the desert, on whatever phone is charged.

  • TicketingVendor imports, transfers, and one source of truth.
  • Gate kiosk & scanningCheck-in with barcode scanning from a phone browser.
  • Early entryBuild-week lists that match who is actually allowed in.
Over 2,000 real people trust this system — and a volunteer Board relies on it to run a legal Spanish asociación.
Humans for your burn

Take the parts your burn needs.

Humans is built as independent sections — People, Teams, Shifts, Tickets, Store, Expenses, Governance, and more — each owning its own data and talking to the others through narrow interfaces. That structure is the roadmap: a deployment per burn, configured with the sections your org actually uses. Run People + Shifts + Gate and skip the rest. Use Microsoft 365 instead of Google Workspace. Add your language. The modularity is real today; per-burn configuration is where the project is headed.

Not vibe-codedStrict layering and section isolation, enforced by custom Roslyn analyzers at the line of code.
Tested like it mattersPer-section test suites, architecture tests, and mutation testing on the rules that count.
Nothing invisibleAutomation that acts without leaving an audit entry is treated as a bug.
Actually openAGPL-3.0, developed in the open, section by section.
